Barbarian Masters
Total War: Shogun 2 Otomo Campaign with the Master of Strategy Mod
In the midst of the Japanese civil war, known as the Sengoku Jidai, a storm shipwrecks some European traders on their shores. They bring with them the technology of the west,
most notably the matchlock firearm. But they also bring their religion, Catholic Christianity, a faith that seeks world domination through traveling missionaries.

The leader of the Otomo samurai clan, Otomo Yoshiaki, takes these strange barbarians up on a historic offer: to take both the new weapons and the new god, and use them in his bid
to conquer Japan and become the new overlord, the new Shogun.

Key Characters
Otomo Yoshiaki
The head of the historic Otomo samurai clan. He inherited from his ancestors various family feuds and expectations for greatness. By using the power of the barbarians, he believes he has a chance to meet those expectations and more. The price may be high, but for Yoshiaki, any price is worth it as long as he succeeds.

Kobayakawa Chikaharu
The general of the Otomo army, and Yoshiaki's right-hand man. A more traditional samurai, he is unsure that his lord's actions are morally right. But like many others, he struggles to argue with the results, and more-so than others he has a duty to make his lord's wishes come true.

Unno Shigenobu
The clan's quartermaster general, responsible for the shipping of prisoners to Europe, and an unknown fate, as part of the exchange with the barbarians. His willingness to excel at his work propels him to fame, but for such underhanded work he isn't sure he wants it. His concerns that the Otomo clan will be destroyed by its dishonourable conduct, combined with his duties as a central figure in the plan, leave him struggling to appease his enemies and allies alike.

Otomo Yoshishige
The son of Yoshiaki, heir to the clan and first member of the Japanese nobility to be exposed to Christianity as a young age. Obsessed with the religion's purported strength, he is more eager than any to spread the mission of the foreign religion to his lands.

Fun Facts!
-
Shogun 2 was the first game I tried an NLP in, and is my favourite of the Total War series, so I was very happy to come back and update the NLP format for a return to the game.
-
The footage for the first half-dozen episodes or so was filmed months before I started working on the series - so eager was I to start playing the game!
-
In my original playthrough for the series, the Otomo clan was almost wiped out towards the beginning and reduced to just Tanegashima island on the edge of the map. For the second playthrough, the one I actually used, I was more careful to prevent naval invasions by the Ouchi, since that is the main source of difficulty in the early game.
