Fields of Mars

Total War: Attila Roman Britain modded campaign

The Roman Empire is falling, and can no longer afford to protect its provinces of Britannia safe. But the general overseeing their defense refuses all orders to abandon the island and it's people.

He believes that there is a way to save the land he has come to love, but first he must cast out the master-god he has come to hate, and all that follow it.

He will make sure that Britain stays safe, stays Roman, by the very same powers that made it so in the first place: the Roman Legionary, and Mars, the celestial god of war.

Key Characters

Constantinus

Constantinus is the Roman Empire's General in command of Britannia, tasked with protecting the realm from the constant raids, a task that is proving extremely difficult, and for which he is receiving little help from the stretched Empire. For the last twelve years he had lead the Romano-Britons against the Ebdanians, the Caledonians, the Picts, and raiders from overseas such as the Saxons. Seeing their brutality, and contempt for his civilisation, he has grown a keen desire to see them eliminated outright.

Tullus

A junior in Constatinus' military administration, he isn't particularly happy with his leader's rash decision making. As a result of those decisions though he will be called into active military service, and must learn the art of battle quickly if he is survive to oppose Constantinus' folly.

Constans

The heir to Constantinus' growing authority, brought up ready for a life in power, but with different ideas about what should be done with that power to his father.

Julianus

The second of Constantinus' sons. Forced to become a perfectionist to stand a chance of outshining his oder brother, Julianus deliberately makes himself the antithesis to the chosen heir, hoping to prove that his own way is the correct one.

Aurelianus

The third son of Constantinus, and perhaps the most normal. Just wants to do right by his family, but they may not return the sentiment, letting his honed leadership go to waste.

Uther

Constantinus' bastard son, ignored by the family but equally if not more skilled the arts of statecraft. Such skills allow him to excel at the unimportant work he is given, so much so that importance seems to force itself upon him.

Fun Facts!
  • The campaign footage is from the fourth attempt at playing it, the others being too hard, too easy, or too boring! One my earliest blog posts has more info on that struggle.

  • Savran cavalry (Sassanid crossbow cav) are the most broken unit in the entire Total War franchise. In this series, I found this out the hard way, but also solved the mystery as to why.

  • I originally wanted this series to be about 30 episodes long. On 36 right now, and no end in sight. Is this another Massalia Tales?!
