Recs was born a slave in northern Britannia, but one day the villa he works on is attacked by barbarians and he is set free. But the rest of his family are missing, leading him to begin a quest across the whole Roman Empire to track them down, while concealing his true identity, lest he be sent back to slavery.

Recs
Child of a couple from the Novantae tribe in Caledonia. As his parents were enslaved by the Romans, he too is a slave by birth. He worked on a Roman estate until barbarians attacked, forcing him out into the world where he had a lot to learn. He's quick on his feet and well disciplined. A lifetime of slavery has left him angry and careless for the fate of those who have wronged him, but strongly sympathetic to other downtrodden and oppressed peoples. Harbors a minor obsession with the wealth he never had.

Regni
Recs' younger sister, kidnapped by bandits and shipped to Rome, or so the rumours say. Finding a way to get to her is Recs' central goal.

Bagadata
A storyteller and apparently legendary warrior, although only he seems to say this. Claims to be from Frisia, despite his clearly Persian appearance. His 'Eagle Spear' is pledged to help Recs in his heroic quest.

Agasicles
A Greek engineer looking for work. After being left high and dry by a client in Caledonia, he accepts employment from Recs for an important mission. Always found with his bodyguard and PA, Aliva.

Eadfrith
Recs earns himself a fan in this tournament-goer, who later offers to join the party as a prize-fighting manager, luring Recs in with promises of fame and fortune. Not especially impressed with anything accept feats in the arena, and is able to put up a decent fight himself.

The style for this series, with more regular writing and not just dialogue, was inspired by how good it was to write like that for the series that came before it, The Promised Crown. Also I needed something that was much faster to edit than Nariko's Treasure!

Following a long running tradition of having at least one big mistake in the opening episode of every series, episode 1 gets Recs' owner Helividius Galba's name wrong. I might even still be getting it wrong here, I can't remember that thing.

Bagadata's weird anime voice was inspired by Anime Sephiroth from the Sakura Wars This is Content.
