SO MUCH CONTENT. Making This Is Content is actually kind of hard, for there's this constant need to come up with new stuff, and no time to be happy with or generally mull over what you've just made. Some it was kind of good, I thought, but it all goes down just the same as the the rest of the crap, for that is the way of low quality spammed content!
I was thinking earlier that I used to get annoyed when watching comedy gameplay videos as they tended to rarely be longer than 10 mins. Two examples that spring to mind are Game Grumps and Game Society Pimps, similar channels that are influences for This Is Content, and tend to post 10-12 minutes videos.
Too short to really get into, leaving you constantly switching video if you actually enjoyed it and wanted more. But of course now I see why! MORE VIDEOS PER HOUR OF GAMEPLAY RECORDED! If you go from 20 min episodes to 10 min episodes, you are effectively DOUBLING your own hourly rate of pay! So I feel like there was a race to the bottom, and the youtube ad policy that favours 10 mins and above made that the bottom.
There will be exceptions of course, like VideoGameDunkey who takes generic content and edits it so finely that is becomes amazing - he rarely releases a video, and they're usually short, and it works. But then, he doesn't need YouTube algorithms to help him much anymore.
He's another TIC influence. The two biggest influences for how I try to do my live commentary are Sips and Jerma, two large gaming youtubers. Sips does unedited live commentary, and has a strong ability to keep the commentary constantly flowing and fresh so that he effectively doesn't need to edit; very nice and efficient production! Jerma's videos are basically identical to TIC ones, and are the direct inspiration for how I format and edit things. There's a video of his in GTA5 called 'Wine Friends' which reminds me of my Murderous Mike stuff very much.
I would include links to these places, but you're a big lad now, see if you can use your guile to find then if you're interested.
Anything else happen over the last month? New year or some shizzle like that. January blues for YouTube because everyone gets less money - thank god my numbers are low enough that a further reduction doesn't amount to much in absolute terms!
My YouTube goal for this year is to make enough money through YT and Patreon to pay the rent, which means making something like 30-50% more than I do now. Not completely impossible I think. It comes with a subscriber goal of 15k (easy mode), 17.5k (intermediate mode) and 20k (expert mod).
This year will feature my channel's 5 year anniversary - a nice milestone to celebrate as the whole operation becomes more and more serious, and more worthwhile outside of the creative side of it. The hope is that this time next year I will not just still be a full time tuber as I essentially am now, but I will be CASH POSITIVE tuber! The true dream indeed.
Pretty sure that's it for now, have a lovely time unit of your choice.
